Our Lady of Lourdes Feast Day
February 11, 2026
While the official feast day was February 11, we get to celebrate as a faith family this weekend-woo hoo!
God has given us many incredible gifts, but one of the most incredible gifts is His Blessed Mother Mary. Mary, who taught, guided and protected her infant, Jesus, so long ago, continues to do the same for us-HER children.
As we ponder on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes where Mary appeared to St. Bernadette-aged 14, we can ask ourselves, “Why is it that God allowed Mary to appear to young children?”
What can young people do for God that adults can’t do?
Well…a lot.
Children, in their childlikeness, can see reality through a lens of innocence, purity, curiosity, and trust. It is through their example that brings us adults, lost in the day-to-day responsibilities and trying to accomplish everything on our own, back into the arms of our Loving Father.
It is only through these childlike qualities that we can enter through the gates of heaven.
It is kind of ironic that you, in middle school, who are beginning to navigate this world on the fringes of your parents’ fingertips, are now asked to be ‘childlike’ in order to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
But those “childlike” qualities we are talking about bring us closer to the reality of God by:
“Trusting Him without hesitation
Humbly acknowledging our need for Him
Believing without cynicism
Obeying with a heart of love
Resting in His provision and protection
Rejoicing in His presence with pure joy”*
Come, dear children, and rest in God and help us adults to see Him through your eyes.
See you at Mass this weekend!
